New Olive Oil Promotion and Awareness Initiatives with the Support of IOC
Once again, the International Olive Council (IOC/COI) has approved for co-funding a series of proposals submitted by the Friends of Olive Oil and Olives Association, FILAIOS, following a selection process involving applications from IOC member countries worldwide.
The approved initiatives aim to raise awareness of the nutritional and health benefits of olive oil, both among specific target audiences and consumers at large.
The three FILAIOS proposals, which are scheduled to be implemented in 2026, are briefly outlined below:
- “Olive Oil Myth-Busters” Campaign
Challenging and dispelling common myths about olive oil and its use in cooking, the food service industry, nutrition and other related fields.
- “Olive Oil Guide – Accessibility Project”
A practical educational and tasting guide for people who are blind or visually impaired, combining Braille with audio-based learning tools to make olive oil education accessible to all.
- “Olive Oil School Campaign”
Interactive presentations at primary and secondary schools, aimed at bringing olive oil closer to younger generations and strengthening their connection with this important part of our food culture.
Olive Oil and Olives Days 2026
Meanwhile, as part of the annual worldwide celebrations organised by the International Olive Council and UNESCO for World Olive Tree and Olive Oil Day, observed every year on 26 November, FIILAIOS will once again host its “Olive Oil and Olives Days” from 16 to 29 November 2026.
The initiative will include a series of information and awareness-raising activities in restaurants, schools and other venues, with the aim of encouraging the consumption of olive oil and table olives and highlighting their importance to the national economy, as well as, above all, their nutritional and dietary benefits.
Statement by the Chairman of FILAIOS
Concluding his statement, George Oikonomou, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FILAIOS, said:
“After 28 consecutive years of positive and meaningful work, the Scientific Association of Friends of Olive Oil and Olives ‘FILAIOS’ has received recognition not only from all members of Greece’s olive oil community, but also from the International Olive Council.
We call on everyone involved in the olive oil and table olive sectors to take every opportunity to promote their historical, cultural and gastronomic heritage, both in Greece and internationally.”
