Regulation of Competition IOOC KOTINOS 2016

International Olive Oil Competition KOTINOS

In order to highlight, promote, and disseminate the high quality of olive oil, the Olive Oil Society “FILAIOS", in cooperation with and with the support of institutional bodies in the olive sector, organises the standardised extra virgin olive oil Quality Competition "KOTINOS 2016".

The main goals of the Competition are:

a)  To support and encourage olive growers; olive oil producers; olive oil pressers; merchants and formulators, who legally make branded standardised extra virgin olive oil available at the retail stage (final consumers, mass catering establishments etc.) to promote products with exquisite organoleptic characteristics (quality criterion perceived by the consumers), maintaining and improving their quality, and promoting use and consumption of high-quality olive oil.

b)  To inform and encourage consumers (including young consumers) and      professionals using olive oil (cooking schools, chefs, mass catering establishments, restaurants, taverns, hotels, etc.) to recognise and appreciate, in addition to the particular and documented value of  healthy/organic/nutritional properties, the organoleptic characteristics, namely the sensory properties (smell-taste-harmony) of high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

The Competition is conducted under the auspices of a four-member Organising Committee composed of internationally renowned scientific and professional experts in oil issues.
